One of my favourite places to be is London, I love the hustle and bustle, all the amazing things to look at, the beautiful sights and loads of incredible places to eat! I went up on my own this week for a little shopping trip and a quick scout round to see the preparations for the Queen's Jubilee. It was very exciting! I had a plan of where I wanted to go and to see and, most importantly, to eat. The only downside of being on my own is that I have a pretty poor sense of direction, I think I know where I am going and invariably I will end up somewhere totally different. My hubby is the one who knows how to get to places, especially in London as he grew up there, so I usually let him lead me around. But with the help of Citymapper, which is a fantastic app so not to get lost in cities, I didn't do too badly. I did end up going round in a big circle at one point and couldn't quite work out why I was walking past Hamleys...again! Anyhow, I wouldn't say I was lost, just a little disorientated and exploring new places!
London was looking very beautiful adorned in a million Union Jacks! Oxford and Regents Street were decorated, as was Covent Garden and the Mall. Sooooo many flags! It was great to be there so close to the Jubilee weekend and seeing them getting ready for the celebrations.
I couldn't go any further down The Mall as they had closed it all off due to them putting the seating together for the big Jubilee concert that is to take place outside of Buckingham Palace. Can you see on top of the flag poles there are crowns? They don't look very big in the photo, but they were huge, I saw them being manoeuvring with a crane! It was fun to be able to walk and stand in the middle of The Mall, which doesn't usually happen without causing a bit of an incident!
The other thing taking place on the day I was there, was the Top Gun Royal Premier in Leicester Square! This may be a lesser known fact about myself, but Top Gun is one of the absolute favourite films and I did have a huge crush on Tom Cruise when I was younger! I had to go to Leicester Square and see what was happening and and it was lots of fun to see them preparing for the big night. Most of it was cordoned off but I could see the red carpet and lots of images of planes and Tom, be still my beating heart!!
Watching the people lugging big photos of planes and Tom around really amused me, I'm not sure why, but it made me chuckle. I think it is just seeing how messy the preparations were, but knowing that tonight it would be seen as a mega million pound event that only a select few will be able to see, but yet they are just images that two young lads are lugging around on their shoulders.
Little did I know that behind the cordons was a huge jet fighter!! I would love to have seen that. This is an even lesser known fact about me, but I love loud and fast planes, the louder and the faster the better! I love an Air Show and hearing and feeling the incredible noise the jets make. This is probably why I love Top Gun as well.
Anyhow, this is slightly getting off the point!
It is often joked about by my ladies in my Scrapbooking club that I coordinate my families clothes for layouts, or they ask me how do I have the perfect photos for a layout, I must plan it. Well the truth is, that no, I don't do this....well not usually! But this visit was different and I did dress to coordinate with some up and coming layouts, that I have got planned. I purposely wore red and blue and my disco bead necklace as I wanted lots of photos to go with my next Stampin Up Scrapbooking class I am running (details below). I am hoping lots of these photos will work really well with the Lovely In Linen papers and the Cup Of Tea stamps and dies I will be using.
You won't need to have gone to London to be able to do this class, I think lots of us will be doing some fun Street Parties or a garden parties for the Jubilee or maybe just enjoying going out in the sunshine to see some bunting hung around your town. If you would like to order the kit and have access to the video to make the layouts then please let me know and I would love to take your details and add you to my order.
